jumping on the bandwagon....my long build
So, i bought mine a few years back and was actually inspired lately by some of the other build threads to get mine going back together. I bought mine as a roller in OK.
So I started by basically gutting the car inside and underneath. I started mostly at the rear. I removed everything and what I couldn't afford to replace have stripped, cleaned and repainted.
Here's what my ass side looks like this week after getting it back together. I need to move onto the turbo coupe disc work next and get the tank and fuel stuff back under it.
pulled it out of the garage for the first time in years....just like a papa with a new baby...cept this ones not as pretty yet.....
rebuilt the traction lock clutches, new spring, new gears 3.55's, new bearings, seals..etc..different axles, strange adjustable shocks, stock springs, new uppers, stock lowers. I do have the sway bar sitting needing to go on....found it after i pulled the car out.
I'm trying to budget this and come back when funds allow to put the good lower arms on, springs, panhard bar....
I've found that Eastwood, the catalog order company has some great products. I used their extreme chasis coating, used their gas tank refurbish kit, and some misc. other coatings. I layed underneath this car scrubbing for hours trying to get it clean enough for the undercoating.
So in a nutshell my build is a kinda stocker, with a gt40p head and cobra intake swap. I'm planning on running the stock cam for now. I'm really wanting a tubular K-member, so we'll see how long i can hold out for that before I get too anxious and have drop the motor back in to get it running.
i'll keep posting as i move along this summer.Last edited by svtjoe; 05-22-2009 at 02:44 PM.

It looks like a good starter car, body looks ok to me, well from the pic. From what I can see of the under body, it looks like you did a great job cleaning it up. Did you rebuild the diff yourself? How good is the interior?
What side of rd. 11 do you live on? Is your garage detached?

thanks for the comments guys. It's a work in progress for sure. I had to replace the passenger door because the original was damaged and had a really bad cover up job (bondo). I was kind of thinking about going the ssp black and white paint job....

really the body is in crappy shape. the picture makes it look ok. The driver's side is ok, but the passenger side fender was screwed up along with the door i replaced. Now that I've seen that replacement door on there in the sun....it doesn't look great either. Did you do all the body work on yours? I know i'm in for a long haul when i get to the body work..
yes i rebuilt the diff myself, it wasn't all that bad at all. the gear setup was not me, Dread53 on here did that work. I replaced the axles with Ed's from his stock set up because the axles were pitted at the bearing contact areas.
the interior is not the worst but needs seats and carpet and door panels....i guess about full replacement....
my house is just east of 11 and just north of 18. its the summit view estates neighborhood.

Yeh, sounds like a long haul. Mine was that way once. My car did not need much body work, just the driver front bumper had damage. My dad is a painter/body man, he repaired the front bumper. I could not find another one in better shape. Only other problem my car had was where the roof is leaded to the A-pillars was craacking. My dad said it was most likley caused by the stress of racing on a flimsy mustang chassis. I assisted with all the minor stuff, dents and prep work, and I stripped the car down.
I know that neighborhood, my kids daycare "Around the Mayploe" is there, at the south end of Mt. Buchann St. (i think thats how you spell it)
