Mineral Grey GT
Hey everyone,
So I've been a member for a while now, but I haven't had much of a chance to indroduce myself on here. My name is Chris and I've got a 2001 Mineral Grey GT (Very Loud) with bolt ons, stage 1 cams and a tune. The car is now spending its first winter in storage! I'm a full time student and Lincoln Tech and am about a month away from graduating with an associates in business and my diploma in automotive technology and I'm fortunent to be working/learning at one of the coolest shops I could see myself working at. Since I'm so close to graduating, I'm starting to get ideas for the build im planning. I'm no expert at this, but I'm hoping to gain a lot of knowledge and experience and hoping the outcome will be exactly what I am looking for. I'm planning on drag racing, but I also want the car to handle because I'm planning on racing it up in Steamboat when its complete. I'm hoping this project will be done by summer of 2012, but we will see. This is just the plan (So Far) and I'm open to any ideas that anyone has! Let me know what you think!
So first I'm planning on the suspension. I've started collecting parts that I'm planning on using. I've decided to go with the Maximum Motorsports torque arm rear suspension with the torque arm rear springs and adjustable rear lower control arms and full length subframe connectors. As soon as I start assembling the suspension I'm going to paint the rearend black (Rust colored at the moment). I'm going with the MM Tubular K member with 1.5" offset control arms and coilovers up front (Not sure which coil-over kit yet).
As for the driveline, I've already got a 3.73 gear ratio, but I would like to upgrade to a Torsen LS/ 31 spine axle rear end (Would rather be safe than sorry since I will be drag racing). For the transmission, I haven't decided if im going to rebuild my T-5 or if I will go with a new one. (Planning to keep it a 5 speed, at least for now). For the interior I'm planning on an MM 6 point roll bar with the fixed harness mount and standard door bars, along with the MMR Rear seat delete and aluminum firewall (Haven't decided on the seats or harnesses yet). I currently have an MGW short throw, but im not sure if I like the feel.
Finally the engine, planning on running lots of boost!
Not planning on passing e test so it may or may not be street legal =(
MMR Mod 900 4.6 Short Block w/
Cobra Forged Crank
Manley forged H beams
Manley Dished -23CC Forged Pistons
(Probably going to keep it a 2v for now)
TFS 2v Twisted Wedge Heads Stage 3 port and polished (W/ Reinforced Spring Perch)
Manley Steel Valves
CMS Stage 3 Blower Cams
Fox Lake P-51 Intake
For the noise makers, I love the sound of the Kooks LT's w/ Cats and the Slp LM1
BOOST!
Procharger D1SC or F1A Blower with 3 core A-A Intercooler
Still working on the Fuel System, but I will post as soon as I do some more research.
Thats it for now! Let me know what you think!

Looks like a great list. Do you have to change the hood out with the P-51? Otherwise all I can think is $$$$$$ lol

Are you planning on going with the MM panhard bar too? I'm running the MM adjustable lowers and panhard bar. I really would like to do the torque arm too, but just haven't had the money to do it.
Good choice on the Procharger. I love my D1SC.
I don't have first hand experience, but I've read plenty of complaints about the MMR short blocks. It may be worth some research before you drop the money.

Sounds like you have some great ideas.
Are you sure your car has a T-5 though? I thought they had the 3650.
You can't go wrong with MM stuff for your suspension upgrades. I had a lot of MM stuff on my 04' and loved it.
If you are already not planning on passing the e-test, what is your plans for the car? Is it going to just be a dedicated track car?
The P-51 intake will fit under the stock hood. That is the same intake that Paul has in his 02' I love the way that intake looks. Sounds like you are planning on building quite the beast.2011 Shelby GT500

Im pretty sure the stock hood will clear the intake manifold, but im planning on switching the hood anyways. Im not sure if I want to go with a 2.5" cowl hood or the Cobra R hood. Im probably going to go with a carbon fiber hood because I think it will look good with the mineral grey. I also have a 2000 Cobra front bumper that Im having my friend paint. I already have the panhard bar, XL Subframe Connectors and LCA's so the torque arm will be next lol.
I havent heard any complaints about the MMR short blocks, but I should have plenty of time to research since Ill be ordering the engine last lol, I guess Ill have to just keep up with the research! As for the E test, I might just throw the engine I already have in to pass the test and then swap in the new engine, but keep that on the down low! lol
I bet for the right price I could get my ole buddy Mike to tune it!

Sounds like a blast. Keep us posted on the build. I've heard good about the MMR shortblocks but as of late I have heard a lot of bad. Loud is an understatement. Longtubes, SLP, and an F1................

Yeah, google MMR and any number of curse words and you'll get a lot of hits. As was stated before, I have never had any experience with them, but there's quite a few unhappy people out there.

I have had my MMR block/D1SC set up for about 2-3 years now and never had a problem with either. There's always another gremlin running around the engine bay...............
Your set up sounds kinda like mine except I have mine stuffed in a Cobra. You won't be disappointing with the KOOKS long tubes either.

How do you like the D1SC? Do you know where you can find the complete procharger kits instead of just the P1SC complete kit? I can't find anywhere that sells the different blowers in a kit instead of just the "tuner" kits.
