Legality of removing the smog pump from my 1982 mustang, 302ci.
Hi all, new member of the Mustang lovers grouops. I have an '82 that I just bought. I had many issues from years of neglect that I am slowly fixing. I hate the smog pump and all the bs in the engine compartment that goes with it. My question is, is it legal to remove the smog pump in the state of Colorado?
Thanks and looking forward to your responses.

You need it for the visual inspection in order to pass emissions.

I passed the visual with a crankcase evac pump that looks like a smog pump but without anything they wouldn't have passed me.

Agree with everyone above. When I removed the smog pump off my 5.0, I wasn't sure what the inspectors would look for, so I tried to make it easy to reinstall everything related to the smog pump. The big item that was difficult to get to was the cross-over tube that was mounted on the back side of the heads. I was going to remove it, but it is needed when the smog pump solenoid valves are in place. So, instead of removing it, I found a threaded brass cap from Lowes/Home Depot that fit on the threaded end that connects to the solenoid valves. You can barely see the cap (painted silver) in the picture below. It worked well and is easily removed to reinstall the smog pump components.
