    Default MacBook Pro Ram Upgrade

My macbook pro is a I7 2 GHz processor with 4GB of ram. I have a ram tracker and im always using most of it almost all the time. Some times I have 1 gig of ram free.

So should I upgrade it to 8 GB or 16 GB?

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Memory for Apple Model CMSA16GX3M2A1333C9

    Amazon.com: Kingston Apple 8GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module (KTA-MB1066K2/8G): Computers & Accessories

Im do alot of solidworks drawings on the computer and figure that the extra ram is definetly worth it, but 8 gigs of ram is alot, but 16 is HUGE.

    What would you do?

    Memory is cheap. Go 16.

Somebody has told me that once DDR4 becomes the norm that DDR3 will go up in price, just like DDR2 is more expensive than DDR3 right now. Do you have any clue to why?

Guess I could do 10GB with one stick of this

They probably quit making it, it becomes rare, more expensive since not everyone can buy new boards. Can you do just one stick? If it was me, I'd do 16 and never look back.

I think i am leaning towards 16 now too, but This computer is still under warranty, so now comes the question, does it void the stupid warranty?

Sometimes my screen goes black when the thing is bounced around a bit and stays unresponsive for a while, so I have yet to take it in for that and don't wanna void the warranty by installing some ram.

If you're that worried, keep the old ram and swap it in.

Some people will tell you that you don't need more than 6 or 8, but I agree with Tim... go 16, especially if you ever want to get into video editing and such which is one of the strongest features on a MAC.

RAM is going to start increasing in price in about 2 weeks and not stop. A few hardware releases got delayed and the factories slowed down production big time. We're at the bottom of the swing right now (RAM always goes way up then way down, never an inbetween)

Looks like I'm gonna order 16 gigs of ram then... I'm hoping it speeds this computer up quite a bit. Cause the processor speed is slower than my other MacBook pro, but it was a duo core and this is a quad core. Both are about the same speed, but sense this is an i7 I'm hoping more ram will boost the speed in this quite a bit.

It ought to help quite a bit. The real speed would be a SSD in there

Im jealous since I only have 4 in my old MBP. Running a couple of virtuals today almost killed it.
